Hello, my fellow readers and curious minds!
I'm Geeky, the top Medium writer on Midjourney, Perplexity, and generative AI topics.
You might be familiar with me from my boosted stories on Medium, where I've amassed an 8K-plus following. Or perhaps you may have read some of my viral stories shared by the Midjourney community.
If you're just now discovering me, what's taken you so long? Just kidding, I'm happy to have you here.
Recently, there has been an exodus of tech writers from Medium to Substack. Some of my favorite writers, including those who encouraged me to start writing, are packing their bags and bid adieu to Medium.
After considerable thought and a few cat memes, I have decided to follow in their footsteps. Anyway, what could go wrong when the big brains lead the way, right?
I want to go to a new place where tech writers are welcome and can be themselves. There is no need to compete for attention with stories about personal feelings and sentiments where zero research is required.
Different sorts of content have specific niches and audiences. Putting them all in the same basket and judging them using the same criteria is disappointing.
If you are a big fan of Medium, don't worry; I'll keep my account active, but my primary focus will now be on my new Substack publication: Geeky Curiosity.
Geeky Curiosity
Geeky Curiosity is a newsletter on generative AI, primarily on Midjourney and Perplexity, but also covers Prompt Engineering and other fascinating AI topics.
It's a new platform where I can share and discuss the tried-and-true, practical ideas and insights of using AI to boost creativity and productivity.
My tribute to Midjourney
![A fictional character created in Midjourney A fictional character created in Midjourney](https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F773e4930-0ac4-4d06-8b81-a37c1b9b0b5f_2912x1632.png)
I remember when I first discovered Midjourney. It was first confused since, unlike other "usual" web applications, I had to access it through a strange-looking and cryptic Discord server.
However, once I've gotten past the learning curve, my mind opens up to a new world.
It was an incredible experience. I could finally bring my imaginary vision to life without being held back by my inability to sketch or paint like a professional artist.
It is liberating as if I had suddenly gained a superpower and could make beautiful images on a whim.
Midjourney allowed me to create imaginative characters that I never thought possible. It was like awakening a creative genie I didn't know I possessed to explore a new magical realm. The experience was surreal.
Generative AI for work
Aside from using Midjourney for leisure, I also use it for work to develop visuals for PowerPoint presentations, explore ideas for product design, create posters and illustrations, and even design personalized birthday cards for my colleagues!
I use Perplexity and AI models to find information, generate ideas, summarize and analyze scholarly articles, learn a language, and automate repetitive and mundane tasks.
These AI bots are more than just tools for me.
They help me create stuff in my daily life. I frequently collaborate with multiple bots on a project because each has its unique capabilities and contributions to offer.
Collective learning
The AI models we work with are so advanced that even their developers are still figuring out how to use them effectively. Fortunately, the community is full of creative minds who share their discoveries on the internet and chat rooms.
However, with few authoritative sources and a lack of documentation, these creative insights can quickly get buried and lost, given the rapid pace of AI development.
Books struggle to keep up with the rapid breakthroughs in generative AI. When a book on Midjourney is published, some of its content may already be outdated, while new features have yet to be included.
I want to document and share these creative ideas and use cases from the community (and mine) with you, my readers.
It's like conserving the collective wisdom of the ever-changing history of generative AI.
Take, for example, the creative uses of Style Tuners in Midjourney 5.2. Countless style codes, tips, tools, and techniques created by the community have become obsolete in less than a year.
Some of these learnings remain applicable and inspiring for Midjourney users, providing insight into developing new techniques.
So, join me in signing up for the Geeky Curiosity newsletter. Let us create, learn, and inspire one another while poking fun at our feline friends 🐱
