This article has been published ahead of schedule to provide you with tips for shortening your learning curve to master the new Midjourney feature - Patchwork.

One step closer to the Holodeck.
One step closer to the Holodeck.

/imagine: Your World

Imagine this: you have all these amazing images that tell a story, but they aren't yet connected. You can place them on a blank canvas, arrange them along a timeline, and describe the scenes and characters to create a cohesive story.

That's exactly what Patchwork is for. It provides a canvas on which you can arrange and link all of your images with style references, character references, and personalization code, ensuring that everything appears to be from the same world or environment. This way, your story will be more cohesive and visually consistent.

You use Patchwork to create worlds from your imagination. It can help you to develop the initial vague story ideas to more complete ones.

This article will guide you through using Patchwork with a step-by-step example. We'll cover the following actions:

  • How to create a world with a specific look and style

  • How to create a character

  • How to create a scene

  • How to place your character into the scene

  • Tips and tricks for using Patchwork effectively

It’s highly recommended that you go through the Patchwork's official training resources (user guide and video), as I will share with you additional information beyond the publicly available materials.

Here are some important points to note about Patchwork

Patchwork is still in its early research phase, serving as more of an experimental tool than a polished storytelling solution. This means that it hasn't yet created a complete storyline for you. It's more about exploring how Midjourney can build stories by linking images.

Tips: Patchwork may occasionally lag or stop responding. If this occurs, please wait a few seconds and check the Midjourney website gallery to see if your images have been generated. It's recommended to have both the Midjourney website and Patchwork open concurrently for status checks.

Also, remember to save your work before refreshing the page to avoid losing progress.

Let's get started.
